
Governor Mills Opioid Response Summit & Seminars are part of the state’s strong commitment to fighting the opioid epidemic. The Summit and Seminars convene leaders from across Maine to share ideas, strategies, and best practices to help Maine people and families affected by this public health crisis. The summit’s theme reflects the personal and societal challenges of substance use disorder and opportunities to build a better, kinder future together. This session will focus on the question of whether public health, rather than law enforcement, should be the first to come to mind when ensuring public safety in our communities. The conversation will touch upon the experience in the Netherlands, Portugal and Brazil and what lessons Maine can learn from the experiences of these nations, both positive and negative.
